As already mentioned on this blog, I was at the ESOMAR Panel Research 2006 Conference in Barcelona to present a “paper” about sample multi-sourcing.
See below the slides of the presentation (I have taken this opportunity to test the new service Slideshare, the “YouTube of Powerpoint”. Do not hesitate to contact me if you want to read the whole paper.
Description: Multi-sourcing, or using multiple sample providers to recruit respondents into a single survey, is becoming a growing practice in the US. This presentation discusses the results of a comparison study between nine sample providers and shows that, beyond demographics, each sample source has an inherent bias because of the way that they recruit, manage, reward and communicate with their members. It shows that multi-sourcing can provide a stable and representative sample though under certain conditions.

Hi Oliver, this is Enric Cid, marketing director at Netquest Spain. I believe you met our CEO, Germán Loewe, in Barcelona. The fact is that, since then, we have been debating about “Olivier’s idea”: every single panel has an inherent bias. Yet, we are trying to find out some ways to eliminate that bias, to create a “non branded” panel, so to speak… we have some interesting ideas now! We are working on a new concept: “panel –multipanel†One panel (with a common quality system) with multiple recruitment an incentives systems…
Thanks Olivier, keep in touch! Best regards.
Enric, I am glad that my presentation helped initiate a discussion. In fact, I still keep receiving comments, questions etc one month after the presentation, and the emails I receive really seem to indicate that this is something people have been willing to talk about for some time but didn\’t know where to start. I hope that great ideas will come out of all that. Please keep me posted about the progress of your concept, I am already curious.
